The ENDO Klinik was founded at a spezialized center for Joint Replacements in 1976. It is the biggest institution for TJA in Europe and one of the biggest in the world.
Today the amount of surgeries is about 8.000 Joint Replacement surgeries, , 650 Spine Surgeries and 2.500 Sport Orthopedic Surgeries
He graduated as Orthopedic Surgeon in 1997 from the University of Kiel / Germany. During his training he worked for two years from 1993 to 1995 at the ENDO Klinik in Hamburg.
From 1999 until today he is constantly working at the ENDO-Klink, where he became the leading position as Medical Director in 2005.
Thorsten Gehrke is a highly-experienced orthopaedic surgeon, providing the broad spectrum of treatment for painful joints. One of his main focus is primary and revision hip and knee replacement and septic revision surgery in hip and knee.
Thorsten Gehrke is member and Honorary Member of several national and international Societies, e.g. European Hip Society, International Hip Society and American Knee Society and published in multiple national and international Journals. He is also author of several books and chapters about septic and aseptic revision surgery. Thorsten Gehrke has published more than 300 Peer Reviewed Manuscripts and wrote more than 30 Book Chapters
He is the head and leader of the Joint Replacement Working group of the HELIOS Group which deals with 48.000 Arthroplasties / Year
Dr. Gehrke performed difficult surgeries in all corners of the planet from China, India to South Africa and Latin America, totally in 34 different countries.
Additionally, he got worldwide reputation by organizing and chairing together with Dr. Javad Parvizi the International Consensus Conference on Periprosthetic Joint Infections (PJI) in Philadelphia in 2013 and the International Consensus Meeting (ICM) in 2018. In 2020 he was the co-author of the Consensus Group about resuming elective surgery after COVID 19.
He was member of the steering committee of the ICM regarding VTE prophylaxis 2022
Together with Dr. Javad Parvizi he is preparing the next International Consensus Meeting (ICM) about PJI in 2025
Thorsten Gehrke is a visiting Professor in numerous Universities, like Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Shanghai.
